It all depends on how many people and how many days you are on the island, start from $555 for a day trip, including 4WD hire from Hervey Bay, return barge, national park pass, car cleaning after hire.
The best option for a day trip to Fraser Island is to take one of the guided day tours, including return transfer, return barge, national park fee and lunch. The tour will visit 6 most famous destinations on the island. You can also do a 4WD self drive day trip to Fraser Island.
No. Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world, all the roads and tracks are made of soft sand. It is only suitable for 4WD.
You will need a vehicle access permit to drive a 4WD on Fraser Island. Vehicles can only get onto the island by ferry.
The ocean surrounding the Fraser Island is not snorkel friendly. There are no coral or plants, but some dangerous ocean animals, such as sharks, octopus, and poisonous jellyfish.
You may want to snorkel in lakes and creeks to see what’s underneath the surface, but it won’t have much to see.
No. The Fraser Island national park does not allow dogs on the island, except assistance dogs which require a permit before being allowed on the island.
Fraser Island is home to many lakes. Some lakes are shallower than they first appear, and you need to be aware of these risks. There are some lakes safe for swimming, such as Lake McKenzie, Lake Wabby, Champagne Pools, Eli Creek.
Swimming in the ocean along the coast is not recommended.
An oasis in Hervey Bay
Yong and Bo organised both Fraser Island and Whale tours for us at very short notice. All went well thanks to their care.
Emeraldene Inn is a great place to stay. It is a quiet oasis with the rooms set in a garden that is more jungle than garden. Rooms are spotless and the bed was very comfortable. Best suited to those with a car as you will need to drive to shops and restaurants. This is normal in Hervey Bay as the town has no real centre and facilities are scattered. A comfortable and relaxing place to stay.
Idyllic Place and Wonderful Hosts
Although located by a main road, the Emeraldene Inn & Eco-Lodge was a place like paradise. The courtyard was full of various plants and flowers, which was beautiful and peaceful. The room was quite clean, the beds were comfortable, and the small kitchen with tableware was very convenient for the tourists.
The hosts were very friendly and helpful. They could arrange various local tourism projects for tourists – such as Fraser Island Two-day tour and Whale Watching, etc.- that was really good! I would happily stay here again.
Emeraldene were awesome, Yong & her husband who run the inn are really friendly and organised our whole tour to Fraiser with the explorer adventure team which was fantastic.
We communicated with Yong on the days leading up to the tour telling her how many people we had and what we needed etc and she took care of everything and allowed us to leave our belonging at the inn whilst we went to Fraiser.
The room was nice & had everything 3 back packers could need, and it was also really clean.
Would definitely recommend!
Great trip to Lady Elliot and Fraser Island organised by Yong
Very, very, very clean and spacious room in the middle of a quiet forest garden, a few minutes away to restaurants and shopping centre. Yong organised the whole 5 day trip for us, and she has been so quick and professional! She helped us in all our requests and needs (car park included while we were away for the trips).
Excellent service and trip organisation!
Exquisite welcome and helpful staff!!
Very, very, very clean and spacious room in the middle of a quiet forest garden. The best bed in all the hotels of our trip!! We stayed 3 nights in between our trip to Fraser and Lady Elliot islands and we were able to leave our huge luggage (coming from Europe in winter period) for our one month trip to Australia which was a great advantage! It’s a motel type hotel relatively away from the centre (the best option is to rent a car for dinners in town) with swimming pool, air conditioning, kitchenette and every day you receive coffee pods and tea bags free of charge. You can also order a full breakfast for $12 from an extensive menu and they bring it to your fridge the night before.
Both tours of one night each to Fraser and Lady Elliot beautiful islands were extremely well organised and good priced compared to doing it on the internet by yourself. We wish to strongly thank Yong for her invaluable help and kindness and would definitely recommend Emeraldene to anyone. We hope to be able to come back in the future. Carmen, Teresa and husbands.
The official whale watching will start from the 9th July. We have already seen some Humpbacks in the bay, the whale searching cruises will kick off from the 2nd July.
